Paraty beaches you can only reach by schooner
Six stops with calm, crystal-clear water, two different routes and a whole day at sea. A guide from people who sail this bay every day.
In this article
Paraty is famous for its Historic Center, but anyone who has been there knows: the best of the town is on the water. The bay is full of islands, coves and pale-sand beaches, and many of them are far from the road or can only be reached by boat.
A schooner tour in Paraty solves that simply: you board at 11 a.m. at the pier, the crew takes care of the sailing and you spend the day hopping from one stop to the next, with lunch and music on board. In this guide we show the beaches on each Escuna Paz e Amor route, what to expect at each one and how to make the most of your day.
01Why see Paraty's beaches by sea
Going from beach to beach by car in Paraty means mountain roads, parking and hiking trails. By schooner, the beach comes to you: the boat anchors in calm, shallow water and you climb down to swim just a few meters from the deck.
It's also the most relaxed option for families. Stops last 40 minutes, and there are free life jackets and pool noodles for all ages, plus a support boat that takes anyone who doesn't want to swim to the sand. Between stops there's a bar, restaurant, restrooms and shade on deck.
02The beaches on each route
Paz e Amor has two schooners, and each one takes a different path through the bay. Both leave at 11 a.m. from the Tourist Pier in the Historic Center and start at Ilha dos Cocos. Choose a route below to see the stops.
- 1
Ilha dos Cocos
The first stop of the day, and the one in most photos. The schooner anchors in clear, calm water, perfect for your first swim and your first ride down the waterslide.
- 2
Praia da Conceição
A quiet strip of sand surrounded by Atlantic rainforest. The perfect stop if you want to walk on the beach: the support boat takes anyone who'd rather not swim to the shore.
- 3
Lagoa Azul
One of the most popular stops in Paraty. Blue-green water and little fish around the boat make it a favorite for anyone who loves a mask and snorkel.
- 4
Praia da Lula
The last stop before heading back, with a calm sea to enjoy the day's final swims at your own pace before sailing back to the pier.
- 1
Ilha dos Cocos
Both schooners start here. Clear, calm water, good for the first swim of the day and for getting used to the sea.
- 2
Saco da Velha
A sheltered cove with still water that feels like a natural pool. Great for families with kids and anyone who prefers a very calm sea.
- 3
Ilha Comprida
A rocky shore with see-through water, a classic stop for swimming near the rocks and watching fish with a mask.
- 4
Praia da Lula
The same last stop as Paz e Amor II: calm sea for the final swims before heading back.
The schooner anchors, the ladder goes down and the sea becomes your pool. Life jackets and pool noodles are free; the mask and snorkel kit costs R$ 30 on board.
